Rural policy committee

The Rural Policy Committee is a cooperation body which aims to promote the well-being of the rural areas in various ways. The primary objective of rural policy is to improve the preconditions for living in the countryside. The rural areas must be diverse and viable in terms of industries, services and the population basis.

The Rural Policy Committee is appointed by the Finnish Government. More than 500 persons from several ministries and other organisations participate in its work.

The countryside is a diverse and valued element of Finnish society.
Attractive environment, spacious settlement and local solutions are the source of Finnish welfare and the foundation for sustainable development.
Society provides the basic structures for life and work in the countryside and encourages and supports development work on people’s own initiative.
Rural residents, communities and companies are thriving and the sense of community, state of the environment and competitiveness have improved for the benefit of the whole society.
There has been a marked increase in the international contacts among the rural actors.
